When people hear the word “art,” many think of elaborately painted landscapes or delicate sculptures. Yet, there’s truly much more to discover than just paintings and sculptures in the art world. So take an afternoon to check out the current exhibits on display at the Cincinnati Art Museum.

The Fabric of India (now through January 6, 2019)
Come and discover the textiles deeply ingrained in India’s heritage with this exhibit. On display is a large assortment of threads and fabrics, some of which are over 6,000 years old. The Fabric of India features six sections exploring the different ways in which fabrics were used in Indian history. Pieces include textiles from the higher classes who enjoyed use of luxurious fabrics in addition to the religious faction that created sacred cloths for worship purposes.
Life: Gillian Wearing (now through December 30, 2018)
Gillian Wearing is best known as an artist whose works are primarily focused on what it is to be a human. In this exhibit, you’ll find photographs and videos casting light on common relationships among people. It also highlights the ways in which humans both share and disguise their innermost thoughts.
While many of Wearing’s older pieces are featured in this exhibit, you’ll also find many new pieces making their debut here at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Enjoy!
Collecting Calligraphy: Arts of the Islamic World (now through January 27, 2019)
With pieces originating from countries including Spain, Turkey, India, and Syria, the Cincinnati Art Museum has been collecting calligraphy since the 1940s. You’ll find on display poetic and historic texts, pages from the Qur’an and political decrees, with pieces ranging from single sheets to complete manuscripts. In fact, many pieces of the collection are quite old, dating back to the ninth century. So you get a chance to peruse a bit of history while enjoying the craftsmanship evident in these works.
